Dan Nash

London, United Kingdom

“Blues from the Crossroads”

Dan’s music harks back to the roots of early rent party/juke playing, with performances encompass the whole acoustic blues genre from the rough-edge bottleneck blues of the Mississippi Delta to the intricate finger-picking styles of Texas and the Carolinas. He focuses on rare and standard blues classics by bluesmen such as Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, T-Bone Walker and Lightnin’ Hopkins.

He gravitated towards the deep South in early 2007 whilst making a documentary on the history of blues and playing around the Mississippi Delta and surrounding areas. During his travels, he met and interviewed blues legends David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, Henry Gray and Hubert Sumlin as well as members of both Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters’ family.

Recently, Dan has developed a strong following among blues dancers enjoying the juke-joint style experience of the 1920s-1950s. He plays regularly for blues dancers in his home base of London and continents abroad.

Blues Hall of Fame Artist

Jonathan Kalb is a Blues Hall of Fame vocalist, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist who has been playing for more than 40 years.

The ups and downs of his fortunes were filled with extremes from playing on the streets to performing in front of 30,000 people as the opening act for BB King. Today he leads his own band after backing a myriad of famous artists like Steve Miller, Otis Rush, Sunnyland Slim, Lightning Hopkins, Honeyboy Edwards, Solomon Burke, and more.

After his European tour, he’s back in NYC working hard on the Blues music he loves!

Leo D'Juan

It Must Be Jelly! (The Secret Band)

The Northeast

All Stars and Youngbloods

Why is this ‘The Secret Band’? ‘Cause we ain’t telling you who’s all in it! Except that they’re some favorite artists paired with underappreciated hardcore musicians experienced in throwing down for dancers.

This mash-up has never been done before, and unlikely to appear again. So we’re calling them ‘It Must Be Jelly!’ ’cause it’s fresh inspiration guaranteed to make ya shake! Blues with a jazzy soul, two scoops of grit, and whole lot of boom. Don’t be late Saturday night!

Live Music every night from a variety of band styles!

John Joven

New York, NY

Head DJ Coordinator

John discovered dance during the neo-swing revival of the late 90s in Chicago and has been hooked ever since. Over the years, he has expanded his interests to teaching, DJing, and competing. He got is start teaching lindy and blues with Big City Swing in Chicago in 2009, but had been a performer in the company troupe since 2004.

He is a regular DJ for New York’s most popular weekly swing event, Yehoodi’s Frim Fram Jam, and he also DJs at the local blues dancing events, Gotham City Blues and F’NBlues. Joven is also a popular national Blues and Swing teacher, with his focus on encouraging students to adding their voice in the conversation of the dance.

Rayned Wiles

Washington, D.C.

A Oldskool Favorite

I feel like we’ve been staring at these same two %@&*ing photos on every event website or DJ forum over the past 20 years. That’s because, whether behind the decks or on the dance floor, Rayned handles it all with a quiet, smooth, deeply musical touch.

That’s what has made Rayned Wiles a nationally-known DJ with extensive experience national competitions, dance camps, exchanges, blues clubs and special events. “I think the point of DJing is to keep everyone in the room dancing and having a great time through music,” Rayned says. “My music of choice is swing jazz blues. I like Fats Waller’s view that swing is ‘two-thirds rhythm and one-third soul’ and Carmen McRae’s reminder that ‘blues is to jazz what yeast is to bread–without it, it’s flat.’ ” Rayned DJs regularly in the Baltimore/Washington DC area.

Lo

Cleveland, OH

Two letters. Tons of cred.

After 18 years on the dance scene, here’s a man who doesn’t even need to use his full name of Loreto Agdinaoay Jr. … He’s basically a Mad Libs come alive:

DJ. Teacher. Brassy. Groovy. Funny. 3-time DJ-battle champ. Riding. Good-looking. Well-traveled. Well-dressed. Brown. Black. Funk. Soul. Brother. On point. All the time.

You can’t spell “MezzJelly” without “Lo”.

Miguel Cruz

Barcelona, Spain

Sports. Teaching. Spinning!

Straight from Barcelona, Miguel is passionate about the Blues from all eras and locations, but his favorite musicians are Muddy Waters and T-Bone Walker.

Blues instructor in his hometown of Barcelona, he’s also an event organizer and DJ at both local and European festivals. DJing late at night on Saturday night, he will showcase his soft & mellow favorites that will hopefully become your favorites too.
